August: The Best and the Rest

Hey there! I have spent the day painting, doing a drawing that is taking forever and ACTUALLY REDEFINING THE WORD 'PANTS', OH MY GOODNESS GUYS WHY DID I THINK POINTILLISM WAS A GOOD IDEA, ignoring what my mother rather cruelly calls my 'real' homework and making a carrot cake. Oh, and in the morning devouring the latter half a compelling but rubbish YA novel. Beyond by Graham McNamee, I don't really understand how it-- OH MY COODNESS THERE IS A BEETLE THE SIZE OF A MOUSE RUNNING ACROSS THE RUG ~jumps a foot in the air~
~grabs lamp as weapon~
~shakes~
~sees it has disappeared~
~sits motionless for a while~
~thinks I can feel it crawling on me~
~convinces myself I can't~
YES I CAN
NO YOU CAN'T EMILY
IT'S ON ME SOMEWHERE
BEETLES ARE GOING TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD
~hyperventilates~

...

~much later~

OK, I'm back ... that was a terrifying experience. Wow. I think I'll just write my post now and repress thoughts of a cow-sized black beetle regime taking over the world ... ~shudder~

IT IS BACK HEADING IN THE OTHER DIRECTION, IT'S DISAPPEARING UNDER AN ARMCHAIR, NO IT'S SKIRTING THE ARMCHAIR, IT'S HEADING FOR THE DOOR, OH MY GOODNESS MY FATHER IS THROUGH THERE, HE HAS NO IDEA OF WHAT IS COMING FOR HIM, OH MY GOOOONDESSSSSSSSSSSS--

~mild heart attack~
~a passing stranger helpfully operates a defibrillator on me~
OH GOODNESS I CAN HEAR NOISES

... maybe I am not in the best state to write a blog post. But the SHOW MUST GO ON as they say.

(apologies for this awful dark photo)
This dress I got in Cancer Research for £7 - the label was still on and it had cost £22! SUH-GORE! However, there were some issues:
~ the buttons are all really loose. One of them came off in the changing room - fortunately I scooped it up and put in my purse. My mum sewed it back on for me I wore it out for the first time to church, but then I noticed that another had come off too! Not in a bad place mercifully, but I did lose the button - there was another spare one attached to the dress though, as they often have. PLUS, the top button kept coming undone ... which was terrifying. I'm sure you can imagine O.o However, Mother says she shall sew them all more tightly on and hopefully prevent further issues.
~ the hem is asymmetrical and weird. It's fine in heels (ie in this picture) but when I tried to wear it with flats ... it looked very odd. However. Such is life. I wouldn't be wearing it much with flats anyway so it's fine :)
Here it is laid out on my bed, again in rubbish light ... it looks nice in real life, honest!
A close-up of the colours/fabric/pattern. A better picture, I think you'll agree.

Couldn't resist buying this for 99p in Barnardo's. It may shock you to discover that I don't actually own my own copies of the books - but I shall slowly build my empire! :D
Got these for £3 in Cancer Research at the same time as the dress. They are beautiful, but I've not worn them yet and I'm wondering if they may have been a mistake - I don't really wear grey at all, so I don't have much to put them with :(
You may remember that in This Month's Hearts the other week I mentioned that I went on a day trip to St Andrews in August with my summer camp, and there I found THE MOST BEAUTIFUL BOOKSHOP ANYONE HAS EVER SEEN, EVER. There I bought this - I mean, how could I resist, it has a gorgeous cover, is extremely thick and is set in the twelfth century - and I look forward to (eventually) reading it :D
Got this in a tiny secondhand book shop in Tobermory. The lovely Treskie recommended this series to me so when I saw this, the first one, sitting there on the shelf ... I grabbed it sharpish!
This was from said shop. I have heard much fangirling about it. Hopefully the title will turn out not to be hideously pretentious ... I have faith! :D

My new schoolbag, from Accessorize! The schoolbag hunt is always a horrible part of the back to school shop, but I'm so pleased with this bag - it's pretty, sturdy, and roomy, which are important qualities. Here's hoping it will survive the year without a lunchbox disaster taking place inside it.

Now I'm off to add vast quantities of books to my newly created Amazon wishlist ... if you're reading this, Minted Brother, you know where to go. :)

Love you,
