Art Tuesday: Blood, Sweat, Tears and Victoriana

Art Tuesday? Remember these? Today I'm going to be sharing some of the work I did for my Expressive unit last term. BUT FIRST: let's talk about puppies.

Can we just take a moment to appreciate that in a very short time I will own a puppy like this one.
We went to view some puppies yesterday evening.

IT IS HAPPENING.

PUPPIES.
But anyway.

~calming breath~

For my Expressive unit last term, my theme was Victoriana. Kinda gothic, inspired a bit by William Harnett:

Beautiful, no? This piece is called Still Life - Violin and Music (1888) and I wrote on it for my National 5 Art exam. As I said, my stuff was kinda inspired by him. Kinda not.
This is the only ickle development piece I have to show you - I did some other pieces, notably some Victorian bells in coloured pencil and some egg nippers (if you don't know what those are, they are Victorian implements for taking the top off an egg. Pretty crazy, isn't it, that in my house we take the top off our boiled eggs with something over 100 years old.) in pointillism, but I don't have pictures of them.
So this is my only development piece to show you! It is very closely linked to my final, as you'll see in a second. Same medium and general subject matter, but a different viewpoint.

And this, in all its badly-lit glory, is my final piece! Many months it took me, friends. If you were wondering why it says 'blood, sweat and tears' in my title, this is why. It took me so. Frikking. Long. But it's done now, and currently is languishing somewhere in the SQA's archives before it is sent back to me in November. What do you think?

Anyway, that's all from me today. I'm off to sunny Portugal on Thursday - hellz yeah! - but I should hopefully schedule some (or one) post for you while I'm away.

When I get back I will have a mighty read of the posts I've missed - so if I comment on four of your posts in one day, you'll now why.

Bye for now!
