Footnotes: September

This post comes to you from the past. I am currently living my dream: I'm on an uninhabited island with no electricity or WiFi. Literally only sheep. It's pretty much my favourite place in the world.

No but seriously, remember that lighthouse thing I shared in my most recent post? (If you don't, a) how dare you not internalise every pixel of my blog, I'm offended, and b) scroll down.) It was about wanting to live in a lighthouse. But where I really want to live is a reservoir tower.

There's a train I often get that goes up from the countryside through the south side of Glasgow, and going through the green country the line passes a couple of beautiful reservoirs. I love that railway -- the trains are old and creaky, bodies painted dull red and yellow, cheerful somehow -- and I love those lakes. And I always look at the reservoir towers as I pass and have a surge of longing.

Anyway, I'm getting away from the point.

It's the first of September, which means it's time for Footnotes!

Ashley and I began this link-up last month. It's quotation based -- each month we post a prompt asking you to choose a quotation on a particular theme, and you respond pretty much however you like! Thanks to those who got involved in August! This month's prompt:

A quotation that makes you laugh.

  1. It's sad that being a cave hermit is too expensive today.

Can't wait to do the link-up

  2. Wait hold up, since when were you disappearing to an uninhabited island??? How??? Why??? Can I come????

I like the prompt but I'm starting uni in two weeks (sadly), so I don't think I'll get any time to post stuff before I go. Honestly I'd rather go to Iceland for three years and learn how to do something cool, like make vintage watches in the mountainside, butttt, alas, I need an "education". It's v sad, but eh. (I'm not quite sure where I went with this comment, but it's chill).

    1. IT WAS SO GOOD, AMY, I CAN'T TELL YOU. SO. GOOD.

Whooaaaa you're going to uni! Look atcha go! What are you doing and where?!!! But also vintage watches. I would literally adore that. (For my Higher Art Design a couple of years ago I made steampunk clock brooches. Unfortunately not ft. working clockwork. I wish ...)

  4. You'd better go on an expedition on that uninhabited island! (If you're still there, that is; which, seeing as you've been out and about on the internet lately, I suspect you are not.) But I hope you DID have adventures there. It sounds so fun.

And methinks I will be linking up today! It's Saturday, it's late, and I have yet to post anything, so this will be my rescue. :)

    1. I had such a great time! I miss it ... (I just said to my family right now, “I wish we were still there!")

Wonderful! Can't wait to read your post :D

  5. The price of hermit caves has gone up tremendously. This is why it's always better to be a dragon. People just run instead of making you pay rent.

    *cough*

Love those pictures! Particularly the coca-cola one. Makes me think of Adam Parrish (gah! i miss them all, must read the third on soon).

    1. You're so wise. I should investigate that. (Though I did do a Paper Fury quiz last night, which magical non-human are you, and I got mermaid, and I know it to be true! No dragon am I. ~swishes tail~)

"What do you want, Adam? What do you need, Adam? /Want/ and /need/ were words that got eaten smaller and smaller: freedom, autonomy, a perennial bank balance, a stainless-steel condo in a dustless city, a silky black car, to make out with Blue, eight hours of sleep, a mobile phone, a bed, to kiss Blue just once, a blister-less heel, bacon for breakfast, to hold Blue's hand, one hour of sleep, toilet paper, deodorant, a soda, a minute to close his eyes.
      What do you /want/, Adam?
/To feel awake when my eyes are open./"

... I wish I could tell you I typed that from memory, but I took it from my review of TDT, way back in 2014. Isn't it weird that I read it so long ago? And that this passage still resonates with me just as much as it did then? Anyway, the pic hadn't made me think of Adam, but as soon as you said it did, I immediately went to those lines! "A soda." Oh, gosh, I love him and Stiefvater is incredible. And yes you REALLY need to read the third. It is so good. I love it as much as TDT. Well, maybe not, I'm not sure I love anything in life as much as TDT, but more or less.

Let me just hyperventilate for a minute.

PS Nice to see you around these parts! I miss you!
